KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20, 2014:
Bollywood superstar and actress Kajol thrilled her fans when she attended the launch of Astro’s new channel — the Astro Box Office BollyOne HD — at the JW Marriott Hotel here tonight.
Known for blockbuster hits such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, Dil Kya Kare, Kabhie Kushie Kabhie Gham, Fanaa and countless others, the 40-year-old star also engaged in a chatting session with local actress Lisa Surihani at the launch.
Bollywood films have a major following in the country. Kajol attributed this to the films being able to cater to everyone’s tastes.
“It has drama, colours and also wonderful storytelling,” she said tonight, adding that as actors, it was their aim to entertain.
“If people are entertained, we have done our job.”
Although her fan base is rather huge in the country, Kajol admits this was her first time visiting Malaysia.
“This is my first trip to Malaysia and I’m genuinely overwhelmed.
“Everyone is so warm and friendly. They came up to me to address me,” a beaming Kajol noted of her experience in the country so far.
With Kuch Kuch Hota Hai being one of her most memorable movies, particularly in Malaysia, she was asked tonight if she could picture anyone else playing the role of Anjali Sharma.
“I can’t imagine anyone else. It’s not just a role, but it’s memories, of best friends and lots of laughter,” she said of the character which she played in 1998 and which earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
When asked which actor among Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan she would act with if given a choice, Kajol answered: “I’d choose a movie with all three! Why not?”
Kajol’s latest feature film is slated for release next year. However, the project is still untitled.
Kajol is married to top star Ajay Devgn.
Present at the launch tonight was former film director Tan Sri Datuk Dr L. Krishnan, who was also the person who had contributed tremendously to the success of the late screen and song legend Tan Sri P. Ramlee.
Tourism director-general Datuk Mirza Mohd Taib also graced the event.
Astro’s latest channel (Channel 251) would be available for preview from Sept 1 to Sept 18.
The channel is set to screen up to five new movies in a month, in addition to awards shows, gossip as well as the latest happenings in Bollywood.
“I believe the channel will do very well here as there are many Bollywood fans here,” Kajol said on the latest offering by Astro.
